Little Mt. Hoffman Fire Lookout and the Medicine Lake Shield Volcano
The largest volcano in Siskiyou County!
Medicine-Lake-Highlands

Hoffman For a small fee, the public can experience the life of a fire lookout. From a height of 7,309 ft., Little Mt. Hoffman offers spectacular views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen and Mt. McLaughlin in the Cascade chain of volcanoes.

Day trips from the lookout can include the volcanic area of the Medicine Lake Highlands. Swim, boat or fish in Medicine Lake, which is located in the caldera of the Medicine Lake Shield Volcano. View mountains of glass black obsidian and pumice, lava tubes, and cinder cones. A driving tour is available that will help you locate these formations. Travel north to Lava Beds National Monument where you can check out flashlights and explore cave-like volcanic formations called lava tubes.

The view from Mt. Hoffman is spectacular! You can rent the Little Mount Hoffman Lookout (or the Girard Ridge Lookout near Dunsmuir) for overnight stays...information can be found at the Forest Service web site.
