Top Ways to Frolic in the Merry Old Month of May in beautiful Siskiyou County, the top of the state!


Rodeo 1. Kick up your heels at the Scott Valley Pleasure Park Rodeo in Etna each may. Join the folks of the Scott Valley in this annual rodeo which includes kids events like Mutton Bustin' and calf riding. Start the day with a cowboy breakfast, enjoy the parade and a professional rodeo all afternoon For more info call (530) 467-4144.

2. Tiptoe through the tulips in the gardens at the McCloud Hotel and Stoney Brook Inn in McCloud...nice places to rest and enjoy the beauty of this historic mill town.

3. Take to the greens for 81 holes of golf on 6 fantastic courses in 3... okay 4 days. Feast your eyes on the beautiful mountain, forest and lake settings between shots. Check out our Upstate California courses on our golf page.

4. Explore the riparian habitat of the Upper Sacramento River with the great displays and information you'll discover at the Upper Sacramento River Exchange Center in Dunsmuir. Lots of great exhibits and a friendly welcome to lead to riverside discoveries...fun for kids, for seniors, for fishermen and water sports enthusiasts.

5. Enjoy a rambling bike ride past the budding flowers and emerald pastures of Scott Valley. Take a lunch break at any of the small historic communities dotting the valley. Check our bicycling page for lots of great cycling links.

7. Frolic to your heart's content at the British Car Gathering and Town wide Swap Meet in Dunsmuir each May. British Car Enthusiasts from throughout the western United States meet ifor a motor cavalcade through town ending in the historic downtown district. Music, afternoon tea, entertainment and BBQ. 8. Explore a Lava Tube Cave at Lava Beds National Monument just south of Tulelake in the northeastern corner of Siskiyou County. Caves can be explored on your own or with a ranger. The caves come in varying degrees of difficulty, ranging from a lighted cave, Mushpot, in the center of the parking lot, to the mile-long Catacombs, with long stretches of duck walking or crawling. Drop in at the Visitor Center. A ranger will be happy to recommend a cave or caves that would be just perfect for you, your family, or friends.

9. Plan a picnic in historic Greenhorn Park in Yreka, then stroll through the reconstructed mining town. Or just toss a line in the reservoir and relax.

10. Arts events countywide are listed on the calendar page at the Siskiyou Arts Council web site. Enjoy gallery showings, theater productions, poetry readings, art classes and music when you visit!
