Top Ten Places for Spring Treasure Hunting in the Mount Shasta Region

1. For tempting treats, take a scenic drive to McCloud where the amazing Sugar Pine Candy Shoppe is full of sweet treasures.

2. Search for your favorite wearable art creation at the clothing stores and gift shops of the county.

3. Fancy finding a gold nugget? Stop by the Siskiyou County Courthouse in Yreka to view the largest display of gold south of Alaska. Then tour the Siskiyou County Museum for history of the area's gold rush days.

4. Discover artistic treasures at Siskiyou County's art galleries and arts events. Wander from gallery to shop to cafe, viewing all of the newest pieces, enjoying demonstrations, music and fine art. 5. View nature's treasures during the spring bird migration at the Klamath and the Tulelake Wildlife Refuges in eastern Siskiyou County. Waterfowl numbers peak in early spring with more than 1 million birds present in some years. April and May are alive with activity as many songbirds, water birds, and shorebirds arrive in the Klamath Basin to rest and build fat reserves for their continuing journey north.

6. Visit the People's Center is the Museum and Cultural Center of the Karuk Tribe of California. The Center is a 5,000 square foot facility that includes an exhibition gallery, a gift shop, a Basketweaving classroom, a library, a collections storage area and the Karuk Language Program Office. 7. Tie a fly and probe the Sacramento River for a slippery trout treasure in Dunsmuir as the fishing season opens for river fishing.

The Wesak Festival takes place on the foot of Mount Shasta in the spring of each year.
