Top Ten Reasons for Turning a Day of Skiing or Snowboarding into a Weekend of Fun in the Mount Shasta Country
The treasures are in the journey, not only the destination..
1. Two day rentals at Shasta Base Camp, Sportsmen's Den and Fifth Season are cheaper per day than a one day rental.
2. Rates at local motels are so reasonable, you can't afford NOT to stay. In the evening you can curl up in front of a cozy fire if you choose the McCloud Hotel.
3. Cross Country Ski is a great sport to try at the Mt Shasta Nordic Ski Organization nordic ski center. Programs, events and vounteer opportunities abound !
4. There are other fun things to do, like snowmobiling. You can RENT A SNOWMOBILE from the Fun Factory if you don't have one of your own.
5. Snowboarders are not just tolerated, THEY'RE WELCOME at Mt. Shasta Board & Ski Park. Check out the awesome terrain park action!
6. Nightlife might include night skiing, fine dining, and live music at the McCloud River Lodge, Stage Door Cabaret. or Sengthong's Blue Sky Room. The newest favorite evening eatery is the
Wayside Grill, a convenient and friendly stop on the drive down from Ski Park to Mt. Shasta.
7. There are Chariot Races in Butte Valley every Sunday through the winter months! Buy lunch at the chuck wagon, and share a warming fire with other race enthusiasts.
8. A weekend of snowplay is great family fun. Buy an inner tube from a local tire shop, and head up to Bunny Flat when conditions allow. Build a snowman, a snow fort, make snow angels.
9. A day of bald eagle watching at the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges is worth sticking around for!
10. Skate the Old Fashioned Way, seven days a week, November through March (weather permitting), at Siskiyou Ice Rink, the largest outdoor ice rink on the west coast. Located in Mt. Shasta at Shastice Park, behind the High School, the rink offers extraordinary views of Mount Shasta, the Eddys and Black Butte. Skate rentals are available. Check out the Live Action Ice Cam!.
