1. Kick up your heels at the Scott Valley Pleasure Park Rodeo May 5th in Etna. Join the folks of the Scott Valley in this annual rodeo which includes kids events like Mutton Bustin' and calf riding. 4. Play along with your kids during the fun Neotropical Bird Day activities, May 11th at the Upper Sacramento River Exchange Center in Dunsmuir. Lots of great hands-on activities are planned, including a poster contest, games, bird feeder construction and Audubon bird walk.

6. Stop to smell the flowers blooming in the Botanical Gardens at the Dunsmuir City Park. Check for early arrivals in the hummingbird and butterfly gardens.
7. Frolic to your heart's content at the British Car Gathering and Town wide Swap Meet in Dunsmuir on the weekend of May 25 and 26. British Car Enthusiasts from throughout the western United States meet ifor a motor cavalcade through town ending in the historic downtown district. 8. Explore a Lava Tube Cave at Lava Beds National Monument just south of Tulelake in the northeastern corner of Siskiyou County. Caves can be explored on your own or with a ranger. The caves come in varying degrees of difficulty, ranging from a lighted cave, Mushpot, in the center of the parking lot, to the mile-long Catacombs, with long stretches of duck walking or crawling. Drop in at the Visitor Center. A ranger will be happy to recommend a cave or caves that would be just perfect for you, your family, or friends.
9. Plan a picnic in historic Greenhorn Park in Yreka, then stroll through the reconstructed mining town. Or just toss a line in the reservoir and relax.
10. May 25 is Opening Weekend of the "Blue Goose" Steam Engine on the Yreka Western Railroad. The steam excursion season begins on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend and will continue on weekends only through 16 June 2002, offering round trip excursion rides from Yreka, California through the beautiful Shasta Valley to the old railroad town of Montague.
