Sand Flat is located on the western side of Mount Shasta, on sub-alpine slopes around forested with old growth Shasta red fir and pinemat manzanita. Later in winter, when deep snows cover the area, Sand Flat is a popular destination for nordic skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts.
