This has been an exciting time for Ed and Sharon Litizzette of
Windamere Arabians in the Shasta Valley near Weed. They have bred
straight Egyptian Arabians in the Shasta Valley since 1988.
This county is not the best location from which to operate. Egyptian
Arabians are native to the hot dry climate of the Arabian Peninsula,
but the Litizzettes would not choose to live elsewhere.
It's always a special compliment when breeders base their own breeding
program on Windamere horses. This year the Litizzettes sold foundation
bloodstock to new breeders in Texas. These folks have been long time
breeders of Arabians but have never had straight Egyptians.
In the past, they have exported horses to Australia and Canada and
this year they are exporting a mare back to the ancestral homeland of
Saudi Arabia, which is their proudest achievement in nearly 20 years
of breeding Egyptian Arabians. An exceptional daughter of this mare
by the fabulous show stallion they bred will be retained to breed on.
According to Sharon Litizzette, most people are surprised to know that
there is an internationally acclaimed Arabian Breeding program here in
the North State.
